| How
do I login to my account? |
| Go to the
login page and enter your
username before the pre-entered "@mailmonkey.net".
Then hit LOGIN. For best results, do not alter any of the
other page options. You'll then be taken to your inbox. |
| How
much disk space do I get? |
| There is
no preset limit to the size of your mailbox. However, I strongly
urge you to frequently go through you emails and delete all
unneeded correspondence; especially attachments. I want to keep
this as unrestricted as possible, but keeping you mailbox lean
will increase overall performance for everyone. I may need to
implement a mailbox disk quota in the future if problems occur. |
| Can
I send/receive attachments in my email? |
| Yep. In
fact, several at a time. Just browse your drive for the file,
and hit ADD ATTACHMENT. Repeat this for each file, but try not
to send more than three attachments in any one email, please. |
| Should
I use Outlook Express (POP3) with Mailmonkey? |
|
While
that is a matter of personal preference, I can advise you
in the following way. The nature of MS Outlook Express is
to pull email from a POP server onto your hard drive for easy
reference, this is great if you don't want to use Mailmonkey's
webmail feature. Here's why: any email that Outlook pulls
from the POP server will, in effect, disappear from the POP
server and be written on your drive. Therefore, when subsequently
trying to access Mailmonkey via webmail, your mailbox will
appear empty, because Outlook has pulled all the mail off.
However, any new mail sent to your box will be available via
webmail, until you delete it or you view the box with Outlook
Express. I know that made no sense, he's what I recommend:
Try to use either webmail or Outlook Express, not so much
both.
| Use
webmail if: |
|
You
require global, on-the-go email access.
You don't have Outlook Express or don't know what it is.
You were satisfied with the previous Mailmonkey user interface.
|
| Use
Outlook Express if: |
|
You
need to send/receive/store large amounts of email and
many large file attachments.
You are a bit paranoid about email security.
You're okay with having to set up Outlook Express several
times, in order to get mail from different computers.
All your other email comes via Outlook Express.
You have a habit of never deleting email. |
Just to
make this more complicated consider this:
There is a great advantage to having access available both
ways. Outlook may be available if the web site (but not your
internet connection) is down. Webmail may be available if
your home PC is on the blink. Even if the Internet explodes
(unlikely) any email written to your hard drive via Outlook
would still be available (but then, of course, you'd have
no one to sent email to).
There
may be (and indeed probably are) applications available that
act like Outlook but not erase data from the POP server. This
would allow you to use both webmail and Outlook equally. I
do not support software of this kind, but if you go looking
on your own, you need a POP3 reader app that doesn't erase
from the server.
|
| How
do I use Outlook Express (POP3) with Mailmonkey? |
|
Use the
following settings in Outlook:
ACCOUNT:
username@mailmonkey.net
NAME: your name
EMAIL ADDRESS: username@mailmonkey.net
ACCOUNT ID: username@mailmonkey.net
POP SERVER: mail.mailmonkey.net
SMTP SERVER (sendmail): mail.mailmonkey.net
*Alternatively, you may enter the sendmail infofrom your internet
provider. Your mail may be sent faster using this method.
|
| May
I request another email address/password? |
| Yes. Just
send me a request via your existing mailmonkey account (so I
know it's really you). Or knock on my door and ask. |
| How
do I change my username/password? |
| You may
change your username (not recommended) or password, by communicating
your request to me in some semi-secure fashion. |
| Where's
my trash can? |
| It's gone.
*sniff* This means, when you hit delete say, "Gone Forever".
Deleted email cannot be retrieved. |
| How
secure is my email? |
|
Um, pretty
secure. Email and user preference files are not readable via
a browser without your password. Anyone savvy enough to hack
my site would surely have their sights set higher than acquiring
John's latest pick-up information for Fantasy Baseball. For
security purposes, it's impotant that you hit LOG OUT after
each session.
Your email
shouldn't spontaneously disappear. The only way this could
happen is if the physical server suffered a severe hardware
failure. This is true of any email service. Back up files
are made daily by my server people and I occasionally make
back ups myself. This does not mean you can ask me to restore
the files because you lost the email that contained directions
to the Edison Mall. Do this and I'll simply laugh at your
misfortune.
Oh, and
don't tell anyone your password.
|
| Can
I check my Mailmonkey email with my Yahoo! or Hotmail POP checker
feature? |
| Yep.
Configure it the same as you would Outlook Express. (see above)
However, these methods may very well delete files off the POP
server, rendering them unretrievable via webmail or Outlook
Express. Recommend performing your own experiments with this
and/or check your provider help/info pages. |
